I slowly started walking. I walked back in to the school, down the stairs, out the front door, off the property and down the block. I walked all the way home and never returned to that school or those bullies.
From that moment on, I knew deep in my bones that I had the ability to take action to better my life anytime I was confronted with adversity. This knowing has served me well for decades. However, a few years ago, I realized that somehow, I had become complacent in what needed to be a proactive process of continually creating my life.
At that point, my life looked incredible from the outside. I had an amazing husband and family, a full social calendar and beautiful home. I had earned my Master's degree in a field I love. I had a career that brought in six figures a year. Yet, I knew that there was something more, that something big was missing from my life.
I was heading into my second-half of life, and I knew in my heart that big changes were on the horizon in order for me to create a fulfilling and inspired life.
Out of equal parts apprehension about a life not fully lived and a deep desire for more fulfillment, I embarked on a process to genuinely explore ten major facets of my life: self-image, family, love, social, career, spirituality, finances, wellness, recreation and contribution. After clearly naming my starting point in each area, I moved into action. Action that has led to numerous massive life shifts including launching my own business, getting out of debt, putting down the bottle, picking up my yoga mat and deepening my relationship with both myself and my partner.
Today, when I look back over the past few years, I am so incredibly proud of the life I have built. While difficult things continue to arise because, you know, life, I have built a strong foundation and a toolkit full of healthy tools that carry me through. My greatest honor and joy is supporting other women through their life transitions and in building the foundation and tools they need to evolve and flourish.
